Fillings
Natural looking white fillings are also known as composite fillings, are now a viable alternative to amalgam or metal fillings that may be unsightly. They have gained popularity over the last few years since many people do not want silver fillings to show when they laugh or smile.
Composite fillings can be used for the following:
- Closing up cracks
- Closing gaps between teeth
- Tooth discolouration
- Tooth decay and filling cavities
- Build up chipped teeth
- Reshaping uneven teeth
- Replacing metal or amalgam fillings
Why should I consider white fillings?
White fillings are figured to be the most natural-looking filling, which contrasts to an amalgam filling, which is silver and easily visible. Although, this does not mean that they are any less functional because a white and amalgam filling are both just as good, but in some cases a white filling does not always last as long as an amalgam filling. The durability of a white filling can be dependent on where it is placed in your mouth and how heavily your teeth meet. Also some patients don’t really want a silver filling that shows when they laugh or speak because they may be conscious about the way they look.
What would my white filling treatment involve?
After an inspection of the tooth concerning a white filling, your dentist will choose a colour that best matches your teeth around it. Your dentist will then shape the white filling to fill in any cracks or spaces or they may even change the shape of the tooth. The new filling will disappear and will look the exact same colour and shape as your other teeth – resulting in a perfect, natural-looking smile. Having white filling treatment could only take one visit, unless several teeth need treating. Depending on the size and number of fillings needed, it can take from an hour to a few hours for the procedure
