Dental implants can give the patient new teeth which look, feel and function just like the natural original teeth. They can allow the patient to regain the ability to smile, speak and essentially eat and with complete confidence. Implants can vastly improve the appearance of the patients smile.

Dental Implants – Replace your missing teeth with fixed teeth

implantssImplants are very strong and have proven to last a very long time. Compared to bridges there is no need to re-model the adjacent healthy tooth and hence the teeth structures are preserved.

Patients who wear full or partial dentures are particularly attracted to dental implants. The dentures can be secured by implants keeping them stable  as opposed to the use of denture adhesives.

Advantages of dental implants:

  • No need to worry about them moving or coming out whilst eating, talking, smiling.
  • Secure your dentures in place.
  • Best option to replace missing teeth
  • As close as your natural teeth as possible.

What Is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are small  titanium fixtures. They are used to replace missing teeth by serving as the replacement for the root portion of a missing natural tooth They are usually inserted into either the upper or lower jaw bone. It is then  possible to attach crowns, bridges or dentures to these implants which look and resemble the natural teeth. Implants can be used to replace single teeth or many teeth.

There are a few medical conditions which  prevent the use of implants but these are rare. There is no age limit and elderly patients are often quite suitable. Implants need enough good quality bone to integrate into. If a patient does not have enough bone in the right place  then a bone grafting procedure can be used. Smoking can inhibit proper healing of an implant. However, this does not prevent smokers from having implants successfully placed and restored.

Are Implants Safe and Long Lasting?

How Long Will My Treatment Take?

The procedure for successfully replacing missing teeth can take between 6 weeks to 6 months. The time span for your treatment will depend on several factors such as the number of implants required, what type of implant treatment is planned and the whether bone grafting is required.

Will It Hurt?

Implants are placed surgically but the operation has to be done very gently. You should expect mild discomfort equivalent to having a tooth extracted. However throughout  the procedure the discomfort experienced is minimal.

A full implant assesment has to be carries out to determine patient suitability for treatment,

Not all patients are suitable for dental implant treatment. An initial clinical examination by Dr JJ Khamis will check  your gums, teeth, bite and jaw bones. It will be necessary to take xrays and a CT scan to evaluate the type of procedure necessary.
